The Friendly BenchⓇ arrives in Durham

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

We are very pleased to announce that we have recently installed our latest The Friendly BenchⓇ in Durham

Working with the brilliant Finchale Group our latest The Friendly Bench is located right in the heart of Finchale’s outdoor community space, situated at the Belmont Industrial Estate, where it will bring together members of the local community including young people with special education needs, ex-veterans, adults with learning difficulties and also members of staff from the neighbouring companies to help build connections and also provide a space to connect with nature.

Although already open, Finchale will officially launch their The Friendly Bench on Armed Forces day, Saturday 26th June (more details to come soon) and will celebrate the opening of their new facility along with the Lord Lieutenant, Armed Forces groups, WI and many others from their local community.

Vikkie Wilkinson, Development Executive at Finchale Group said, “Finchale were over the moon to be selected to join The Friendly Bench network. Our clients have already been able to make use of the space as somewhere to sit, relax and reflect. We are planning an official launch to coincide with Armed Forces Day and an ongoing programme of events throughout the year”

Lyndsey Young, Founder of The Friendly Bench said, “We are so excited about working with Finchale Group, having The Friendly Bench as the main focus of their outdoor community space will enable more people of all ages and backgrounds to meet, socialise, participate and contribute to the many activities and events that Finchale will hold. A beautiful outdoor social space, it will positively impact the lives of everyone who will use it.”

This The Friendly Bench has been made possible thanks to players of the National Lottery and is one of 10 The Friendly Benches supported by The National Lottery Community Fund which are being installed across the England.
