Our third The Friendly BenchⓇ opens in Leicestershire

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

A morning of dark skies turned to sunshine for the official handover of our latest The Friendly BenchⓇ in Burbage, Leicestershire on Sunday 19th September.

Located right outside Burbage Community Library and run by their energetic volunteers, The Friendly Bench Burbage will be a hive of activity for all ages of the community and a hub for local clubs and societies to use and get involved with.

A host of people from across the community attended the official opening ceremony which was officiated by BBC Radio Leicestershire DJ and The Friendly Bench friend, Jo Bostock, also present where representatives from Leicestershire County Council’s Shire Grant team, who have supported us with funding for this project, as well as members of Burbage Parish Council and Rural Community Council who brought their Rural Coffee Connect van and provided hot refreshments for everyone.

Marian Naldrett project co-lead said “The Friendly Bench is a wonderful idea, it gives a chance for all ages and backgrounds to meet together and chat, it will be an active social hub for free activities and events and already people are saying they enjoy meeting here, chatting and looking after the planting which is lovely. We can’t say enough thanks to Lyndsey and her team for their enthusiasm and passion, it has really made a difference.”

Earlier on in the day Marian was also invited onto Jo’s Sunday morning show on BBC Radio Leicestershire to talk about The Friendly Bench and how she had heard about it on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, to hear her interview in full click here, starts at 1:49 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p09tvlct
